WHAT’S THE OKTOBERFEST FESTIVAL?

Oktoberfest  (October Festival) Is a biggest celebration of Germany and one of the principal ones of the world with annual visits of 6 million people.

Running from late september to the first weekend in October, in the city of Bávara in Munich since 1810. 

It develops for some two weeks; it begins saturday after september fifteen. It is celebrated in the field called Theresienwiese (Meadow of Teresa), of the  Munich center, near the main station.

The Oktoberfest is a very ancient tradition, where the beer and the food abounds, this way as also the entertainment and good environment.

The principals moments of the festival are:

The official opening, the mayor of Munich and a personage who represents the “Munich child” (Münchner Kindl), they head the parade, followed by luxurious cars of horses loaded with barrels of beer, also for the carriages of the visitors and the bands of music.

The opening of the barrel, the mayor opens at twelve o'clock the first barrel of beer in the carp ‘Schottenhamel’. Of this form the Oktoberfest is inaugurated with the scream of “Or ' zapft is!”, that  it means ‘Already is opened’.

Parade of the traditional dresses, One of the most important events of the Oktoberfest and one of the major parades of this type in the world.  Eight thousand participants wear the historical dresses and parade from the palace Maximilianeum up to the place of the festival.
